2014 - 2019, The Bandsaw Box Years

The first machine I bought was a bandsaw, and boy did i put it to work! These are all original designs i've created during those years, some files have been lost so quite a few are missing. Back then, I wasn't yet commited to make only one of a kind pieces, I was focusing on production to finance my workshop. Some designs were not popular at all and are still available today, but a few of them, like the butterfly, the baby guitars and the attitude box were very popular. I might have made over 500 boxes during those years, my wrists hurt just thinking about the countless hours I spent sanding all those edges by hand. Those days are over now, but maybe I'll make more Spartan boxes someday, who knows? I use to call them Cyborg boxes, but since i've put on the first spartan brush on one of them, i can't imagine making another one without the spartan touch.

2019 - 2021, Segmented vases
Segmented woodturning, now here's something I like to do! I've mostly been dabbling in basket illusion and pixel art lately, but eventually I will go back to old fashion segmented woodturning.

2021 - 2023, Basket illusion
Basket illusion consists in turning a thin platter, bowl or vase, beading it on both sides with a beading tool, burning horizontal and vertical lines to create a grid, and inking the same pattern on both sides to create the illusion of a woven basket.
Since my work doesn't really qualify as 'basket illusion' (you have to bead, burn and ink both sides to create an illusion. One side takes long enough thank you), I prefer to call it 'pixel art'.
Speaking about pixel art, I never thought I would ever make fan art, until I saw a basket illusion bowl with Mario bros mushrooms and flowers on it. I couldn't help but push the idea a little further.

  Hidden Boxes!
My woodworking journey began with bandsaw boxes, and since it's customary to include hidden drawers in them, I knew I would include hidden boxes in my vases before I even start making them. At first I used magnets, up to 28 tiny magnets divided in 4 little piles. It was a bit tricky, so I got a threading jig for my lathe, now I make vases with threaded lid inside the threaded lid. It's only a matter of time before I add a third layer, I have fun in my basement!

Turned boxes
Big segmented vases are cool but takes forever. Sometimes you just want to make something that can be done in a day. When I'm in a creative rut, or I just don't feel like spending 75 hours on a single piece, I turn a couple of small boxes. It's also a great way to use every last bit of wood.
